Engineering work is taking place between Dingwall and Kyle of Lochalsh, closing all lines. Additionally during this period, parts of Inverness station will be closed on certain days. Background information on the work can be found below.

Inverness - Kyle of Lochalsh:

Saturday 28 November to Friday 18 December:

No trains will run between Dingwall and Kyle of Lochalsh.

Replacement buses will run between:

• Inverness and Kyle of Lochalsh, calling at all stations between Inverness and Stromeferry, then direct to / from Kyle of Lochalsh
• Stromeferry and Kyle of Lochalsh (minibus service), calling at Duncraig, Plockton and Duirinish

Minibuses will be timed to connect with coaches at Stromeferry.

Inverness - Dingwall:

Saturday 5, Sunday 6, Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 December:

No trains will run between Inverness and Dingwall. An amended service will run between Dingwall and Invergordon / Tain / Thurso / Wick.

Replacement buses will run between Inverness and Dingwall.

Additionally on Monday 7 and 14 December, the 06:13 Ardgay to Inverness service will be retimed to start from Ardgay at 06:07, and from Tain at 06:23.

Background information:

Engineers will be carrying out £9m of upgrades and repairs on the Kyle line and at Inverness station. The route, which links communities across the Highlands and attracts thousands of visitors each year, will shut for three weeks to allow a large amount of work to be completed in one go.

A range of renewals, repairs and other maintenance activities will take place:

• At Inverness station, engineers will renew track and sleepers at platforms 5 and 6 and refurbish equipment that allows trains to move between different tracks, helping to improve reliability and keep services running smoothly
• Around 7km of track will be renewed at several locations, including between Welsh's Bridge and Rose Street level crossing in Inverness, Achanalt and Rosebank near Achnasheen, and between Strathcarron and Stromeferry, providing a smoother and more dependable railway for passengers
• Drainage improvements will be carried out through the renewal of several culverts between Dingwall, Achnasheen and Stromeferry, helping to reduce the impact of adverse weather on the railway
• Structural repairs and track renewal work will take place at multiple railway bridges, helping to maintain a safe and reliable railway for years to come
